Classroom information, performances, and musical opportunities for ECC students

Music is an integral part of every child's day at ECC. Kindergarten students receive two hours of music per week. Pre Kindergarten students receive thirty minutes of music class per week.

Why Music?

Does your child remember the words to every song on the radio or every commercial on TV? You probably do, too! The advertising world discovered a long time ago that the human mind remembers things much better when words are put to music. The music portion of the brain is one of the first human developments, which is why music education is vital to your child's development.

Music helps your child:

        Learn and retain new information

        Explore creativity

        Develop fine motor skills

        Develop spatial skills

Studies also show that students who take music perform better on standardized tests. In fact, music class can increase scores by a whopping 75%!

What you can do

To develop your child's musical ability or enhance musical learning beyond the classroom,

  • Sing with your child at home or in the car
  • Listen to classical music at home. Look for simple CD's with works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Verdi. Or, purchase a Baby Einstein or Little Einsteins CD or DVD (www.babyeinstein.com)
  • Enlist your child in a community choir or try a Kindermusik or Melody Hounds class.
  • Sign up for instrument lessons. Piano or recorder would be the best place to start.
