Technology Presentation Stations
Technology Presentation Stations are being used across the district in Angleton ISD classrooms. Westside Elementary and the Early Childhood Campus decided that a presentation projector would enhance teaching and learning several years ago and almost all of their classrooms have projectors. Some are ceiling mounted and some are on mobile carts with a laptop. Northside Elementary has increased the availability of document cameras for teachers the last few years. Last year, a teacher at ECC, Southside and Angleton High School piloted three different types of presentation stations to determine their effectiveness and ease of use as a tool for teaching. Currently, the addition of mobile Presentation Stations consisting of a document camera, keyboard, remote presentation device, large digital screen, VCR/DVD player, cart, and speakers with wireless connection to the Internet are being added to each campus. The document camera allows the teacher to display two or three-dimensional objects, documents, books, overheard transparencies, diagrams, or a map. The image seen by the document camera is projected on the large screen for easy viewing.
The presentation station is ideal for use with large groups of students for viewing Internet web pages, a CD-Rom, or Unitedstreaming digital clip. It can also be used for presenting student-made finished projects or student presentations of products in draft form for feedback from the class before finalizing. The teaching tool helps in review, understanding, student involvement and practice. PowerPoints are used by teachers to reinforced math facts and allow for problem solving and use of strategies on the part of the students. Kimberly Ham sums it up by stating, "It is a tool for adding dimension and texture to characters and events that may otherwise have seemed flat to a generation so accustomed to electronic media."
