Introduction Seems like these bright colored food pyramids are everywhere---especially on cereal boxes! But what do they really mean? You will explore the pyramid & it's key information in this webquest.
The Task You are to work with a partner to complete these activities to help you understand more about the Food Guide Pyramid. After visiting the websites you are to use you new knowledge to create a poster about the Food Guide Pyramid. These activities should be completed in one class period.
The Process
Part I - What Shape is your Pyramid?
Part IV - On a poster board draw a large food pyramid on which you include the following:
- Name of each food group.
- Number of servings recommended from that group each day.
- Size of a serving of foods from that group.
- The main nutrients found in the foods in each section. Go to www.intelihealth.com, to find the main food sources of each nutrient. Select Nutrition, then What's in Your Food (near bottom of page)
Evaluation You will be graded on the following:
- Content-Accuracy
- Attractiveness
- Organization
- Cooperation/Participation
Conclusion
Now that you know more about the Food Guide Pyramid, you should be able to evaluate nutrition information in advertisements, on food labels, and many other places.
