Mrs. Penders' Third Grade Class

A resource available in Southside Elementary teacher Jennifer Penders' third grade classroom is a mobile Presentation Station consisting of a document camera, computer, keyboard, remote presentation device, large digital screen, VCR/DVD player, and speakers with wireless connection to the Internet.  The document camera allows the teacher to display two or three-dimensional objects, documents, books, overheard transparencies, diagrams, or a map.  The image seen by the document camera is projected on the large screen for easy viewing. The presentation station is ideal for use with large groups of students for viewing Internet web pages, a CD-Rom, or Unitedstreaming video clips.  It can also be used for presenting student-made finished projects or student presentations of products in draft form for feedback from the class before finalizing.   At open house or curriculum night student work samples or classroom information can be broadcasted to a parent or community group.  It can also serve as a teaching tool for review, understanding, student involvement and practice.

In preparation for the math TAKS test, students in Mrs. Penders' class divided into groups for a Math Challenge.  With the use of a PowerPoint presentation they reviewed word problems, estimation, graphing, patterning, two step problems, and sequences of numbers. The PowerPoint reinforced math facts and allowed for problem solving and use of strategies on the part of the students.  Students were allowed to click on the correct answer to see their team points earned for the challenge.
