Kimberly Ham's 9th Grade English

The technology presentation station in Mrs. Ham's classroom serves as a teaching tool for added student involvement and understanding.

Having previously read Acts I and II from William Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, students were ready for a review of the cast of characters and the plot structure of a tragedy. The document camera allowed the textbook page to be displayed on the monitor for quick analysis.

Following the discussion and review, students were presented with video segments from the 1968 Franco Zeffirelli film version of the play. The video segments reinforced the lesson and allowed for greater understanding on the part of the students. Projected on the monitor, these segments involved students in a multi-sensory experience of exposures to the characters, dialect, and costumes of the play.

"The use of video in the classroom is an excellent means of bringing to life characters from the page; it is a tool for adding dimension and texture to characters and events that may otherwise have seemed flat to a generation so accustomed to electronic media." – Kimberly D. Ham
