How long did it take to put the AU/FNL program together?

“AU was reviewed for a whole school year before being implemented.  The community was concerned because of many students failing.  There was a survey sent to teachers, students, and parents questioning why the students were failing.  The most often responses were missing assignments, student absences, and students just not doing the work.  Then we heard about a program in Marble Falls, TX.  The program was called Friday Night Live, we then went to Marble Falls and looked at the failure rate before and after the FNL program was implemented.  We were convinced that FNL was good.  “Failure is not an option.”  We took the program from Marble Falls and tweaked it to work better for Angleton.  During the summer various teacher leaders were invited to be apart of a summer retreat in San Antonio to find out what worked best for the students in Angleton.”

Has AU/FNL been as successful as the team hoped?

“Yes, if you go back and look at the numbers, we now have more passing.  Not looking at passing as a 70, but grades like high B’s and A’s.  The reason AU is working so well is because now the students do their work.  AU is now also being used for students that are involved in extra curricular activities as an opportunity to keep from getting behind in classes that they miss due to thier schedules.”
