Hurricane Katrina Hotline


Toll-free number manned by Texas Education Agency Staff

The Texas Education Agency is operating a toll-free hotline to assist parents and educators meet the needs of students evacuated from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama due to Hurricane Katrina. The toll-free hotline number is 800-957-5109. The 800 number will also be in operation Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Additionally, the Texas Education Agency has established a special webpage with Frequently Asked Questions documents for parents and educators. We thank the Regional Education Service Center 4 for developing the Parent FAQ. The webpage includes email addresses for retired Texas teachers who are interested in helping with teaching needs, and individuals inquiring about donating school supplies. On Tuesday, September 6th, Commissioner Neeley will release a toll-free number for Louisiana teachers who are seeking employment in Texas schools. This toll-free number will also be manned from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning Tuesday, September 6th. This information will be posted on the TEA website.
