FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For the first time in the history of Angleton High School, the boys basketball team is headed to state!  AHS will play against Dallas South Oak Cliff High School on Thursday, March 9, at 9:00 p.m. in the Erwin Center in Austin.  The winner of that game will play for the state championship on Saturday, March 11, at 4:00.

Tickets for Thursday night's game are no longer for sale in Angleton.

School buses will be available to take students and members of the community to the game on Thursday and on Saturday.  The bus ticket will cost $10 per person (in addition to the cost of the $10 game ticket).  When an individual buys a bus ticket for the game on Thursday, a spot will be reserved automatically for the game on Saturday.  There will be no additional cost for the Saturday bus trip.  If the wildcats do not play on Saturday, the bus will not run.  Once a bus ticket is bought, there will be no refunds.

Angleton High School students may ride the bus without a parent or guardian.  Younger students must be accompanied by a guardian.  AISD school buses will load by the softball field at AHS at 3:30 on Thursday and will depart no later than 3:45.  The school buses should arrive back at AHS around 4:00 a.m..  Since there are no stops scheduled for the buses, riders may bring water and soft drinks and snacks to eat on the trip.  All school rules regarding behavior and consequences are in effect on the bus and at the game.  It will be the responsibility of the rider to be back on the bus at the appropriate time for the return trip home.

In addition the school buses, the AISD athletic department is making arrangements for charter buses.  As soon as arrangments are finalized, the details will be posted on the AISD website:  www.angletonisd.net.  Interested riders should be aware that the cost of riding the charter bus will be significantly more than the cost of riding the school buses.

Tickets to the championship game on Saturday will be available immediately after Thursday night's victory.  Individuals with identification (such as a driver's license or school ID) indicating that they are residents of Angleton ISD will be given the first opportunity to buy tickets.  All buses will wait for fans to purchase tickets for Saturday's game.

According to Larry Williams, principal of AHS, "the safety of AISD students and fans is of utmost importance to us.  We worry that students who attend Thursday night's game will try to hurry back for school on Friday and may put themselves in danger."  Because of the lateness of the game, students who attend Thurday night's game will be allowed to have an excused absence on Friday.

However, Williams pointed out that the absence will count against a student's semester exam exemption.  In addition, Williams said, "it will be the student's responsiblity to make arrangements with his teachers to turn in assignments due on Friday by Thursday afternoon."

Only 600 tickets to Thursday night's game were provided to the district.

Chartered Bus

Interested students and community members can reserve seats on a chartered bus for Thursday night's game for $32 per person.  This cost is in addition to the $10 ticket for the game.  There are only 55 seats available, and it will be on a first come (and paid), first served basis.   Riders can board the bus beginning at 3:15 on Thursday by the softball field at Angleton High School; the bus will leave at 3:45.  People who are interested may call Michelle Gardner for more information at 849-8206.  Only one chartered bus is available because most charter companies have already committed all their buses to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Information about possible chartered buses for Saturday's game will be available on Friday.
